FASHION POST| IN HONOR OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH, CHELKII 🧶

Crochet Halter Backless Top

Every year, I try and shop with black brands, companies, and business as my way of showing support and investing in my community. However, this year I was on a tight budget and I did not get to splurge the way I would have loved to. I figured this would be the perfect time to share a brand that is dear and near to my heart and means so much to me. As some of you may or may not know, I am the oldest of 6 children from my parents. They have been together for over 30 years and have 4 girls and 2 boys. My sister Shekinah started a brand where she makes custom crochet pieces. Over the past couple of years, I have ordered many different pieces and she is always gifting my family and I pieces from her collection. It is such an honor to feature her on my page this month. Introducing, Chelkii.

A few crochet projects. Toque, satchel bag, and blanket.

I believe it was back in 2023 when my sister messaged me saying she was interested in crochet and had picked it up as a hobby. As a fashion designer myself who has made clothes and sewn together outfits my entire life I was pretty intrigued as I had never explored the world of crochet or knitting. It looked like a very difficult and honestly, sewing was already a hard task that I had learned and still struggled with. Imagine every time you pull out your sewing machine you have to also pull out the instructions plus a YouTube video on how to thread it or change gears....yah, that is me. So to hear my sister pick up such a beautiful craft that took real skill and time management, I was truly impressed.

My new crochet toque for the winter.

Chelkii provides a line of hats, toques and other items made in a range of sizes and colors. She does offer custom clothing pieces but she is very specific with the projects she does accept. Currently, she is working on a line of clothing that she can't wait to have up for sale for her clients. Chelkii has also been featured in fashion shows, on runways with small designers from that United States and in a music video for artist Hope Hope's Instagram  from the UK.

I cant wait to watch my sister's brand grow and flourish. I am incredibly proud of her and her accomplishments, and wish nothing but the best success for her!! Love you sistah!
